Ingredients

  • 6 mandarin oranges
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1.5 teaspoons coconut oil
  • Sea salt

Instructions

  • Peel the mandarin oranges and separate them into segments. Remove any pith and seeds, if present.
  • Gently pat the segments dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for ensuring the chocolate sticks properly to the fruit.

Melt the Chocolate:

  • Microwave Method: Combine the chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring after each, until completely melted and smooth.
  • Double Boiler Method: Fill the bottom pot of a double boiler with a few inches of water and bring to a simmer. Place the chocolate and coconut oil in the top pot, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water, and stir until melted and smooth.

Dip Mandarin Segments in Chocolate:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Dip each mandarin segment halfway into the melted chocolate using a fork or skewer.
  • Allow the excess chocolate to drip off before placing the segment on the parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle the sea salt over the segments while the chocolate is still wet.
  • Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate has hardened.

Notes

For best results, ensure the mandarin segments are thoroughly dried after peeling. Any moisture can prevent the chocolate from adhering properly.
If adding sea salt or other toppings, do so immediately after dipping while the chocolate is still wet.
Lay out your chocolate-dipped segments on parchment paper. It prevents sticking, making it easier to remove the oranges once the chocolate has set.
