Ingredient Notes

Pre-Cooked Chicken: Using precooked chicken breast is a huge time saver. Store-bought rotisserie chicken or leftover grilled chicken works great.

Bottled Barbecue Sauce: The flavor of your wrap will largely depend on the BBQ sauce you choose, so use your favorite BBQ sauce! I personally love Stubb’s BBQ sauce. If you prefer a sugar-free BBQ sauce then G.H. Hughes is a great option.

Large Tortilla Wrap: I love using Mission Low Carb Wraps or La Tortilla Factory Light Flour Tortillas Tortilla (both can easily be found at Walmart) but feel free to use your favorite tortilla.

Shredded Cheese: I love using sharp cheddar cheese because it gives a sharp and tangy taste that complements the BBQ flavor. Other option would be mozzarella, Monterey Jack, pepper jack for some heat, or even vegan cheese for a dairy-free option.

Lettuce or Spinach Leaves: These greens add freshness and a bit of crunch. Feel free to use arugula for a peppery flavor, romaine lettuce for more crunch, or kale for a nutrient boost.

Red Onion: Red onions provide a bit of a bite and a crunch. For a milder taste, you can use caramelized onions or omit the onion all together if they aren’t your thing.

Ranch Dressing: I really love using ranch dressing because it balances the balances the sweetness of the BBQ sauce and it brings everything together. My favorite brand is Bolthouse Farms.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

Warm the Tortilla: Before assembling, warm tortillas for about 10-15 seconds on each side on a skillet on medium heat. This makes it more pliable and reduces the risk of tearing when you’re wrapping.

You could also place the tortillas on a microwave-safe plate and top with a damp paper towel. Microwave for approximately 30 seconds, or until they feel warm to the touch.

Balance the Fillings: Be mindful not to overfill the tortilla. While it might be tempting, overfilling can lead to a messy eating experience and can cause the wrap to break.

Grill Marks: For an extra touch, after wrapping, you can grill the wrap on a pan sprayed with cooking spray for a few seconds on each side until grill marks appear and golden brown. This not only gives it a great look but also adds a toasted flavor.

How To Store

Store your pulled chicken wraps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Be aware that any included greens, like spinach, may become soggy over time. For a crisper texture, consider adding these greens just before you’re ready to eat, or aim to enjoy the wrap within the first 1-2 days after making it.

Recipe Variations

Spicy BBQ Chicken Wrap: Add some sliced jalapeños or drizzle with sriracha or hot sauce. Use pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar for an added kick.

BBQ Pineapple Chicken Wrap: Add chunks of grilled or fresh pineapple for a sweet and tangy twist. Complement with some crumbled feta cheese for a salty contrast.

BBQ Caesar Chicken Wrap: Mix the shredded chicken with a combination of BBQ sauce and Caesar dressing. Add croutons or crispy bread crumbs for some crunch.

Tex-Mex BBQ Chicken Wrap: Incorporate black beans, corn, and diced tomatoes with the chicken mixture. Sprinkle with some fresh cilantro and use a spicy cheese blend.

What To Serve With

These homemade BBQ chicken wraps are so versatile and go well with a ton of different sides. Here are some yummy options to consider serving alongside your wraps:

Chips & Dips: The crunchiness of chip complements the soft wrap, especially when dipped in guacamole or salsa. Yum!

Fresh Salads: . A refreshing salad, like coleslaw or corn salad, adds a touch of freshness and complements the BBQ flavors.

Fresh Fruit: A fruit salad with melons, berries, and citrus would be delicious with this. Mango or pineapple slices can also enhance the BBQ flavors with a tropical twist.

Grilled Veggies: Grilled veggies, such as bell peppers, zucchini, provide a smoky touch and additional nutrients and fiber.

Pickled Sides: Tangy pickle spears or spicy kimchi introduce a tangy contrast to the wraps. I love me some pickles!
